- Goal: To manufacture and supply MDF internal mouldings, including skirting and dado rail for wall panelling, that suited the character and finish of The Bedford Hotel’s interiors.
Aim of The Project
Originally built in 1904 as the Scottish Mutual Building overlooking Belfast City Hall, The Bedford Hotel is a Grade B1 Listed landmark with a rich architectural history. Its transformation into a luxury boutique hotel called for an interior that respected the building’s Edwardian character while delivering the refined finish expected of a contemporary five-star destination.
As part of the interior fit-out, SAM was selected to supply bespoke MDF skirting and dado rail for the hotel’s wall panelling. The mouldings needed to complement the character of the building and work seamlessly within the new interior scheme, with profiles tailored specifically to the requirements of the project.
Drawing on our expertise in bespoke MDF mouldings, we were able to manufacture bespoke profiles to specification, providing the consistency and quality of finish needed throughout the hotel.
MDF Mouldings Made for The Bedford Hotel
The Bedford Hotel’s interiors bring traditional architectural detailing together with a contemporary luxury finish, creating spaces that feel considered and appropriate to the character of the building.
SAM5749 MDF skirting and SAM5683 MDF dado rail were supplied as part of the interior scheme, with the dado rail forming an integral part of the wall panelling. The profiles provide clean, defined lines and introduce the proportions and detailing associated with traditional interiors, while working naturally within the hotel’s contemporary design.
These details may sit at the edges of a room, but they make an important contribution to the overall finish. The skirting creates a considered transition between wall and floor, while the dado rail adds structure to the walls and helps give the rooms a sense of depth and proportion.
Supplied primed with a smooth surface ready for finishing, SAM MDF mouldings were then painted to suit the wider interior scheme, allowing them to become a cohesive part of the finished spaces.
Bespoke Manufactured to Meet the Project Requirements
The Bedford Hotel required specific MDF skirting and dado rail profiles to work within its interior scheme. Rather than selecting from SAM’s stock range, bespoke profiles were manufactured to meet the requirements of the project and achieve the intended finish.
SAM’s stock range includes over 280 MDF moulding profiles, offering a wide choice of skirting, architrave and other interior mouldings. But every project is different, and there are times when even an extensive stock range doesn’t offer quite the right fit. Depending on the quantities required, SAM can manufacture bespoke MDF mouldings to suit individual project requirements, whether that means matching an existing profile for a period property or producing something completely new from a design or specification.
The SAM technical team works with customers to understand what’s required and then develops the profile for manufacture, helping turn a project specification into a consistent, high-quality finished moulding.
Project Outcome
The completed interiors at The Bedford bring together the character of the historic building with a refined, contemporary finish. SAM’s bespoke MDF skirting and dado rail form part of that overall scheme, adding definition to the rooms and providing a considered finish that complements the wider interior design.
Manufactured from moisture-resistant MDF, the mouldings provide a smooth, consistent surface and the durability required for a busy hotel environment.
